When checking the Harley bags for Dyna's all the bags end with this statement.
"Not compatible with Rear Axle Covers on FXDF and FXDWG models."
Obviously people have put saddlebags on their Wideglides and Fatbobs. What does that statement translate to in regard to modifications needed to use the bags and what have you had to do to mount your bags. The only addition I have currently on the back of my Fatbob is the detachable back rest and mount.
And if you add the bags. . .no one sees your naked axle cover bolt!
Though for the life of me, I don't really see why they couldn't be on there, likes like they wouldn't pose a problem to me. I have the leather saddlebags, and my only complaint is I wish HD sold quick detach ones for the Fat Bob. But they'd be on most of the time anyway, the Fat Bob is the only vehicle I own.
I am looking for a good set of bags for my fat bob that will go the distance. I am stuck between the harley bags and Boss bags. both are very expensive but i like the extra features of the boss, specifically the detachment set up.
Does anyone have suggestions or feeling on which way to go or a different option?
I'm very happy with my HD saddlebags, they're very well made, will go the distance. . .but I wish they were detachable, because the Fat Bob is such a beautiful bike without them. . . .
I believe in time the MoCo will come up with detachable ones for this model. A year? Two?
I just installed the Harley distressed leather bags on my fatbob, and left my axle covers in place. I have a good 3/4 inches of clearance on either side between the inside of the bag, and the outermost edge of the axle covers(skull ones). The clearance issue only comes into place if your shock are compressed by a passenger or bumpy road....I left my camera at work, otherwise I show you what I mean....

I don't think FXDFs look right with saddlebags. I went with Kuryakyn tour bags I can use and take off the bike easily. I have a small one I used for daily travel that carries the usual (glasses, gloves, tie downs, etc.)
