Default Question about spokes!

I was thinking about swapping out my spokes for twisted spokes.... Do you think this is something that be done by the average wrencher like me?

I was thinking It would work if I was to do one spoke at a time, Think my wheel with still be true?

Whats your opinion?

Thanks, Donnie

Default Twisted Spokes

I would have some one lace the wheel that knows what they are doing. I'm running 60 twisted stainless steel spokes, but I had Black Bike Wheels make the wheels for me. Good luck in what ever you decide to do.

Donnie, i built a 21" front wheel for mine last year. After getting prices of $200.00 plus to get someone to lace it, I decided to take it on myself. The manual offers some instruction as to how to do it. I had a hell of a time. It took me three tries before I got it right. It was extremely frustrating during the process, but very rewarding after it was done. My biggest problem was trying to interpret what the manual was telling me to do.

You can do it, but it won't be one spoke at a time. The wheel and all existing spokes has to be removed first. All the nipples need to come off be yo can remove the spokes and the hub. When reassembling it, all the spoke have to be laced in the hub before you can lace them to the rim.

It ain't easy the first time, but definitely doable and will save you a bunch of money. I took my newly laced wheel to the dealer to have it trued and the new tire mounted and balance. Truing the wheel cost me $40.00.
