Default FXD vs FXDB question

Dumb question for the day:

When I am looking for accessories (i.e, highway pegs, saddlebag brackets, sissy bars, etc), and I see (in J P Cycles) that something fits "FXD", but does not say specifically the FXDB, will it fit? or is that a different beast all together?

Perch,
Most of it will fit...but there are some exceptions. What parts are you talking about?

I agree...........most common parts will interchange.
Something to take note of will be model years.
We can help more if you specify whether or not your looking for something in particular.

I'm not at home so don't have the catalog,(yeah, I'm at work, the boss is away, and so I play :-) but one thing was definitely saddlebag support brackets (for throwover bags). I believe this was the item where one said "2006 - 2008 for FXD" . It DID specifically EXCLUDE the FXDWG.

The WG fender struts are a little different, so thats why the exclusion
Just about everything for a Dyna will fit yours. If you can, avoid throwovers. If you cant, cut out the yoke and use Easy Brackets or something like that.

Those will work fine on your Bob. Just keep in mind the differences between the FXD and the FXDB when you're looking for parts. The tanks are different, the bars, rear shock length etc. (that's considering all is still stock ofcourse.) Let us know, and we'll try to help out!

Well, I'm going with throwover because my hubby makes them. And if I don't want one of the sets he already has made, he promised to make me a nice set. He DID say he could probably make a set and modify them so they would go on Easy Brackets. I'm still toying with what accessories I want. I know I need highway pegs, even though I'm short. I like the option of being able to stretch my legs out. Plus I know I need to be able to carry stuff, so need bags, and/or a rack for the back (with/without sissy bar?). I want to keep my solo seat (although maybe a different one). So that is how I am spending this long, cold New England winter - looking through catalogs, online, etc., and figuring out how to spend my overtime money (I work for a tax accountant and it's tax season!!).

I mentioned the Easy Brackets route because it seems like no matter how muck padding you pout between the bags and the fender, the paints gonna get scratched. And the the throwover supports look goofy if the bags arent on the bike. Makes it look like you ought to have a rope attached to them and pull a skier behind you.

Good deal your hubby works with leather. You're bound to get exactly what you want, no arguments. I mounter flat stock to the brackets, then mounted the bags to the flat stock. That way, the bags hang straight without sagging inward below where the Easy Brackets end. Just cleaned up installation a little.

I wont mention much about seats, because whats good for me isnt going to work for your rear end. The stock seat fit me fine, but after 25000 miles, its time for a change. I'm in the same boat as you now.

A trick about highway pegs. Get the longest foot peg you can. Short pegs on highway stanchions will put extra strain on your inner thigh muscles. The extra couple of inches in total width relieves that. Ergonomically speaking, the tips of the pegs should be equal or greater than the tips of your handlebar grips. Might look a little funny, but it sure is comfy

Default Pegs

I have a 2008 Street Bob, bought last year and finally getting all the parts I wanted on it. I put LinBar engine guards on the bike. (The ones that look a little bit like the Texas panhandle not the square ones). They have rubber rings on the top that you can you can put your feet on instead of the pegs. Plus if you drop the bike, it may save you some costly tank and other damage. I put a Sundowner seat, because the stock seat is a butt killer. Night and day difference between that and the stock seat, especially if you ride over 50 miles at a time. I am putting permanent sidemounts on this weekend, and then a sissybar with a luggage rack on the back. I wanted saddle bags, but the nice ones are expensive, and I would generally have to relocate the turn signals. Plus, I don't have anyone to make saddlebags for me . With the luggage rack, I can strap my back pack on it for work and a travel bag for trips. Plus I can get odd sized stuff on the rack. Also no worry about theft, take the bag off when you arrive somewhere. If you did not want to use the easy brackets, JMK from Chicago who has a 06 Street Bob recommends some 3 M adhesive tape that you can put on your fenders to keep the bags from scratching them. Check this forum for his posts. I think he said the tape was about $20. Personally on a Bob the saddlebags look funny, of course so does the luggage rack but it's on the rear so the bike looks a little cleaner. Of course to each his own.

Hubby would. But or a price. My price is - well - FREE (if you want to call it that)

Yeah, I tend to agree - but especially on long trips, even though hubby can carry most stuff on his EG setup, I need to be able to carry some stuff too. I HAVE been giving thought to just a rack and sissy bar, but need a setup for a solo seat. Actually, german ladyrider gave me info on a nice setup from Fehling, and a guy here in the states who can get it. He said he'd charge me $215, and it's a backrest (driver) with pad and luggage rack one-piece combo unit that looks pretty sharp. So many things to buy, so little $$ to buy with
