Herr is right. You fuel economy should not really be better unless your riding habits change. However, you should not loose more than about 2-5 mpg with your bike properly tuned for stage 1.
It's you changing your riding habits, not the bike becoming more fuel efficient. If that's how you ride great, there are just as many of us who tuned, and upgraded our engines so that we could use that extra power. In fact, most people just drive faster when they have a faster vehicle, car or bike.
Some food for thought: I normally use cruise control on the slab. After adjusting the timing for the "cruise range", I can go a heck of a lot farther on a tank of gas. Keep in mind that this test was done 3-4 out of 5 weekdays on a nearly identical route each time at nearly identical times during the day.
Conversely, when I am in the mood to boogie and let 'er rip, MPG drops down the toilet but what a ride she is!
So, to me, that is proof that a properly tuned bike is in fact more efficient than a non-tuned or poorly tuned bike if you know how to ride it.
Also remember that you tune can be set up to maximize your performance, maximize your economy, or somewhere in the middle. If while cruising at 50 mph you are burning fuel at 13.4:1 you will burn more than at 14.7:1. If you are too rich then you are not maximizing performance and just wasting fuel. Some of you that are getting better economy may in fact still be running lean. There are control modules out there that change your AFR for performance or economy with the push of a button.
Free up the exhaust, unrestrict the airflow in, add a fuel processor (if needed), and install Jackyl's tank lift. I am glad that I did all of these to mine, all of them added up to more power, more torque, and less heat.
In my option, if you can get more power and/or torque and improve the cooling of the engine, then it is all a wash.
My bike got about 49-51 in stock form. It now gets 46-48 with stg.1 and stuff...
... when I'm riding distance... aka, "butt boring" dude, you're riding to work, what the hell else kind of riding are you going to do, going to work.
When I get froggy, the bike gets much worse mileage, but I know it will and that's fine. It does exactly what I want it do.
It pleases me.
If your bike does not please you, get a different bike or stop riding.
So after wasting max money on my Dyna and getting 10mpg less, Im forced to leave this EFI critter alone.......
So just what bike do you ride Candy? I know I and others have asked before... an '08 sporty and/or a Dyna? What year? Lets see a pic of that gas guzzling beast.
I suggest you go to a website where they are a bit more knowledgeable about engine building, you are getting dumb info from some people who think they know something.

Upgraded from the Dyna-saur 2003 (FXDX) 28mpg to an 08 Candy Red XL1200C
