Ever since I got my springer my dad wants to put one on his '05 wide glide, im trying to talk him out of it because his bike has its own uniqueness, and im not sure how you would ever resell it, but to each his own. Im a big fan of the springer, good luck ive seen a ton of them on EBAY.
Thanks folks it looks like DNA is the best option so far. It will run $700 ish and I will need to investigate the rotor and caliper issues I may face. I will either go with 2" or 4" over and it will be chrome.
I am opting for this instead of further raking as it will reinforce the "Bob' old school look. I am also considering chopping the rear fender support and going with a shorter floating fender to push the bike even further in that direction. The bike will also be getting some really cool dive bars.
It will take some 6 months to get it all done and I will post the results as they occur.
I for one would definitly be interested in hearing about this project. Especially cool having some one else work all the bugs out first!Please keep us/me informed.
Stucarius- When you say a shorter floating fender, do you mean one that is mounted directly to the swing-arm. What are you waiting for? I search for dyna's all over the net with similar low fender setups and it's like they are non-existant. I've considered making the rear end rigid or going to a shock with nearly no travel and adding a spring seat. That way the rear fender could sit just above the tire. On a smooth road a barely there shock combined with a spring seat would be comfortable enough I think. When I hit real bumps on my stock Street Bob it jolts you anyway. The look would be worth any slight loss of comfort.
but Ill try...this is just my experience but a short wheel base rigid bike rides rough, really rough with a larger rear wheel/lower profile tire. A raked out rigid chopper is more forgiving due to the long wheel base and front fork flex. Just for kicks, I'd fab up some metal bars to replace the shocks and bolt them on and try it out...you may (or may not) change your mind about going rigid. I've ridden a number of rigids, from bobbers to raked out choppers and the short wheel base bikes definately ride much harder. I'm only 26 but have already messed my back up somewhat skiing and decided to go with a Dyna for my build just because it will be very forgiving in comparison to a rigid for long rides. I can handle a bare bones seat...just not the jarring effect of hitting Utah potholes at 50 or 60 on a rigid for 6 hours. That being said, I will be building a bare bones, kick only rigid with a decent rake and stretch after I get done with my Bob. I just love the rigid look and figure it will be a good run around town, barhopper bike. Either way you go, keep us posted on what you decide and your experiences, etc.

Yes, I am going to mount the fender via an inverted A frame directly to the swing arm. I will chop off the fender supports off right behind the shocks so the tail will still be soft. I need to figure out exactly how much traverse there is on the rear before deciding how the seat will be configured but I will likely use a single bicycle seat (brown) style seat attached to the frame behind the tank with a pair of support springs.
I may drop the front fender completely but maybe not. Rooster tails of mud in my face will push even my care not attitude.
There will be Maltese crosses through out and some custom paint and sculpture features provided by me since I do that for a living. The head light will be a Maltese and the dive bars echo the cross. The grips, pegs etc will all be stiletto with brown leather wraps.
Anyway this is where the bike is heading right now. There will still be a lot of Dyna Street Bob left but I want to push the custom as far as I can myself.
Basic-I just turned 27 so we're practically the same age. It sounds like you have the resources I wish I had so clean out that extra room cause I'm movin your way to work on bikes and hang out. Been lookin' for a reason to leave here anyway. Utah was never high on my list but it'll be a cool stop before I move on somewhere else.
