Just wondering if i am right about what all i have to do in order to take the covers off.. from just looking at it looks like i have to take the shocks off along with the two T45 screws and the light screw.. After that should just slide off i would think. BUT NO.. How do i get the light wire off.. Do i have to cut them?? or is there a way around this??
Why not powder coat them and put them back on? If you leave the strut cover off you'll still have to put the two bolts (T-45) back on because they bolt the fender to the strut...you could always powder coat or paint those.
I just took my strut covers off for the first time ... I think it's kind of funny--you see guys do something like that and you think 'no big deal.' Unless and until you actually try to do it yourself, you have no appreciation for what a pain in the **** it is to do some of the seemingly minor stuff.
As a matter of fact i went into the Fat BOB squadren last night to look at pics of ppl that had them off and see your.. TO BAD you dont have a photo gallery or any pics rexel... :P
When you put them back on, and before you take them off crank the shocks all the way down to 1. It leaves alot more room to get the turn signal bolt out. When I put it back on even with the shock turned down had to have my son lift up on the rear fender to get the bolt back in. Like someone said above it's a pain in the butt.

Rexel - looks like you've had yours off.

Yeah, had them off, took off one side at at time...used one shock to support the bike until I got the shock back on then took the other side off. Yeah I could have used a lift to support the bike but it was in the dining room when I worked on it.

Sorry, did't take any pictures with them off...I powder coated the covers and turn signals (front and back) and them back on.
