Default Chrome fork sliders - worth it?

I know this has been discussed in the past and I know I can do a search. But, I'm lazy and there doesn't seem to be a whole lot going on today in this forum. If this offends you, you can always click the back button and ignore me.

I have a set of fxd mags off being chromed and while I wait (which I hate), my head is filled with other things I might want to do. I'm afraid when I put those chrome wheels, polished rotors, chrome spacers, axle covers, etc. on, I'm going to wish the front end was chrome or at least the sliders.

I was originally going to take the wheels off my bike and just get my indy to swap the tires out, etc. and then I would reinstall the wheels on my own. Long story short, the wheels will be shipped back to him and I will take the bike over and let him do it all including my 10k service and state inspection.

Just wondering if this might also be a good time to go ahead and do some chrome sliders. Anyone know where I can get a good deal on some and what the labor effort is (for someone that knows what they are doing)? The bucks have already piled up on this project and it doesn't look like uncle sam is going to be returning any of my hard earned tax dollars to me this year.

You can buy them from independent chromers for around $120-$160 for all the sam parts that come with HD's kit, and labor for just the teardown and reinstall of sliders is usually below $100, but if your already having a bunch of work done, you could proably get it cheaper.

And if your doing ll that work, you'll be glad you chromed the lower legs. If I ever get tired of the powdercoated black legs on my bob, I'll just replace them with a chrome set and sell them to someone who wants powdercoated ones on their bike.

I put them on when I did my wheels and I'm glad I did! I think they really pull everything together, especially when you have everything else chromed.

Any tips on where to find a set? Looking on ebay, they seem to go in the high 100's to low 200's. Is that common/good?

I put Chrome ones on, and wish I had gone with black powdercoat instead. Would have shown off the front wheel more.

I did mine. Love the look and the effort to coolness ratio was well worth it.

I just watched e-bay for a while before a new set came up fairly cheap. I still have them in the box waiting to be installed. Maybe I should turn the computer off and grab some tools...

I might do that. I've been an ebayer for a long time but I usually don't do the true auctions anymore. One can spend a lot of time watching only for the price to go up too much at the last minute or be outbid at the last minute. Usually, one of the first buttons I click is "buy it now". But since I have some time, maybe I'll watch some regular auctions and see if I can get a deal.
