Default Rush muffs

A friend just got his 88" Dyna Lowrider back from the shop. He had 1.75" Rush muffs installed & they sound good, but I don't want mine any louder than that.

Will the 09 FXDF with 96" ( 2:1:2 system) be louder, same or quieter that then 88".

Everyone on here seem to like the 2" on the FatBob, but I live in a closed community and don't need to **** off all of my neighbors, hence the reasoning behind the 1.75" question.

Questions:

88 vs 96 cu in motor re: sound, performance, etc
FatBob vs low rider or other similar MC's

1.5" vs 1.75" vs 2"

Thanks for your input

If you are running a PCIII and have the stage 1 A/F you can just take out the baffles and tune the PCIII to run, it sounds wonderful, is very loud but you can creep out of your closed community without waking the dead, I lived in an apartment complex when I ran that setup and it took a week to learn how to not set off all the car alarms when starting to roll out but I figured it. I have a map for that load that runs very well. I turned up the low end and mid range settings. It had a very distinct tone, anyone who heard it always new it was me coming. You cant run that without a PCIII or equivalent and air filter, it will not sound right and have poor low/mid range.
I have since upgraded to a thunderheader, not as loud, better power and better to please the neighbors, but I do mis the distinctly deep rumble.

Can I clarify? You have a 2-1-2 exhaust system? Sounds crazy man.

2-1-2 is the Fat Bob system as well as a few others, it is two headers that go into a "collector" where the cat would be and then branch out again to two mufflers, seems to work well for the most part, you get more back pressure than 2-2

Dox,

I can't speak for the '88 Low but I just had the Rush 1.75 installed with the HD high flow a/c and HD download on my otherwise stock '09 Fatbob.

Drove it home yesterday in 38 degrees and it sounds just perfect and I doubt it will start a neighborhood war. Not piercing loud at all, but a dignified respectable rumble. You're be fine.

Some of the tourist towns around New England here, like Newport,RI are banning straight and excessive loud pipes. Cops are waiting with their decibel meters.......but I should be okay. We'll see this summer.

Thanks all.

I was going to put the 2" on but I'm glad I heard my friend's bike first.

Looks like 1.75" will be the ticket for me.

The 1.75" Rush will be just slightly quieter on the Fat Bob than what your friends bike sounded like.

I had 1.75" Rush on my Sportster, so that is what I got for the Fat Bob.
The Sportster was louder. I believe this is because of the Fat Bob's 2-1-2 exhaust system. It smooths out the pulses of the exhaust note.

I think you'll like them just fine, based on your comments of not wanting to **** off the neighbors.

As you can see, I have since went to the V&H short shots. These are much louder than the Rush slip ons.

That and the Fat Bob mufflers are larger.

Go with the 2.00 you will like them. If you stay out of it leaving your house you will be alright with the neighbors.
