Thunderheader with no tune?
I did a search and it appears that I could get away without a tune if I went with slip-ons and kept the stock airbox, but what about with a full exhaust? I'd eventually like to get a SERT and dyno tune, but that's just way too much money to fork out at this moment. Can I get away with using a Thunderheader and no tune as long as I keep the stock air intake? If not how about with some XIED's?
I'm running the V&H Big Shots Staggered on my otherwise stock motor without much problem. Like you, I'm planning on adding some fuel management in the near future, I just couldn't pass up the deal I got on the pipes. $300 and they still looked new! Then since I had them I couldn't just leave them sitting in the shop, haha. My local indie guy told me it wouldn't be a problem as long as the airflow into the motor didn't change, i.e. new air intake. I trust him. He's been building street and race bikes for a long time and he def knows his stuff. Worst case scenario, you put the pipe on, run the bike down the road, it runs like crap, you bring it back to the shop, let it cool down and swap the stock pipes back on. A word of warning, once you hear that baby roar, you're not gonna want to put the stockers back on, lol.
Check this out. Deals are out there for cheap pc's.
It's not hard to download the maps to it either, if you have a laptop. You can get away with the stock maps from the powercommander.com website until you can get a tune but to be honest, it's a waste of money to just do a tune for pipes. I'm runnin the canned "seII map" and the bike runs fine. I'll be getting a tune because I'm doing a pipe (thunderheader) and cam (wood tw6) swap soon.

I am allso in the market for a tune but the link u showed for flee bay has a RESERVE NOT MET under it.And like u said trying to find the correct one for your specific bike is the hard part.It took me allmost 2 months to find a Screaming E. A/C setup
Well, with the pipes and the hi-flow a/c, you'll need a tuner. If I remember I paid around $280 or so from EasternPerformance. The new PC-V (has auto tune option) is about 10-20 bucks more. If it has an auto tune, you probably wouldn't need to get a full on dyno tune so you'd be saving some cash in a long run.
