I had the new TFI installed yesterday along with V&H big radius, S/E air cleaner, stock ecm. After the bike warms up the check engine light comes on and I'm getting some popping on decel, otherwise the bike runs fine, no popping when giving it the gas. Anyone know what it may be?
I put one on my 06 FLHTCI and it has no popping. They put there overpriced worthless download on it before I got it and it ran ok but would fart back thru the throttle bottle occasionally. Hog Alley where I got the TFI presets them and I have not done anything to it yet. Its got about 3000 miles on it. Sounds like you need to do a little fine tuning with the TFI.
I'm running mine over a Stage 1 D/L and have no pops to speak of. Take off your seat, pull the unit out, velcro it to your fuse box so you can access it and ride/tweak away. There's not much you can do to these TFIs so you won't get lost or screw it up. All else fails, go back to the 4,4,4,4 setting (which I hear may be a little rich) and start over again.
Perhaps you right about some fine tuning. My TFI looks different, its the new version, almost the size of a credit card. It has a minus sign on one end and a plus sign on the other with a button for each one. In between the buttons are small lights.
I was thinking about this when I was riding home phor lunch.
My settings seem to be considerably leaner then the 4,4,4,4 I keep hearing about people using, and I'm at 3400' elevation. The air up here is rarer then the sea level of LA. Yet my settings of 2.5, 3.5, 3.5, 4 have my bike running just about right.
Knowing that you've had the Stage1 phlash, and I'm even more confused. You should be pretty rich! Have you had a look at your plugz?
Matter of fact I checked them just the other day. For all intents and purposes, they're still white, believe it or not. I've seen my plugs with the cocoa color [back when I had the D/L and no high flow A/C] and it's nowhere near that color right now. I'm perplexed.
UPDATED TFI/DFO INFO:
Just got off the phone with George at Dobeck. For the 1340ST, the instructions say that the Green Mode (First one) is non-adjustable, although you can move the lights around. I asked him about this and he says that it's adjustable, but, that you have to hit 7 or 8 before that first mode will really make any noticeable difference and even then, it won't be much. That first mode is tied to the O2 sensors and he said they didn't want to give people too much control over that particular setting. Why...I don't know.
I'm going to tweak it up to 7 or 8 and see what happens. I'll report back tomorrow.
