I just adjusted clutch and cable freeplay this afternoon (you commented on my post on a similar subject). Anyway, I have about the same situation as you describe and I think you're fine.
Mine worked just fine on the ride I took this afternoon in clear, 69 degree weather.
I think the standard rule of thumb, is to adjust about a dime's width of play in the cable at the pull handle. For engagement, the inch measurement sounds about right.

Actually, it was your post that got me thinking! It was MY clutch that needed adjusting!
my clutch releases almost immediately upon let down. i adjusted it that way through the primary. the adjustment on the cable is just that..... an adjustment for the cable. the adjustment on the other side of the primary is how you will make up room or slack it for where you want the clutch to release.

That makes a lot of sense now that you mention it. Being a short time owner, I looked at the cable adjustment and the clutch adjustment and thought "it will be what it will be" if you follow the manual instructions. I also looked at the routing of the cable (to the right side) and wondered if there could be another adjustment that would change the point in lever travel that the clutch engages. I'm happy with mine as it is now, mostly knowing I have the clutch adjusted correctly.
