Im looking at installing apes and i want to change from the stock risers to something more straight and possibly smaller. Im guessing i have to change my top triple tree?
Does anyone know where i could get a quality top tree?
Also i have heard something about clearence issues...
Do i have to lower my bike to put on a pair of 16" apes with little to no rise?
If anyone who has changed there bars on there StreetBobs wants to explain what they did with a photo of the bike i would greatly appreciate it!

What would lowering your bike have anything to do with adding 16" bars? Only lower the bike if you want to lower it but it will have NOTHING to do with the bars.
What they are talking about are the 2008 and newer Bobs with the integrated risers (or so I guess). I ran into this problem myself. The new "fat" bars that are greater than an inch (even if they neck down to an inch for the risers) don't work in the newer Bobs. I was told (and I think this is his question), that you can loosen the trees and lower the forks to obtain proper clearance. With this in mind, I went straight out and purchased a set of 1.25 inch Wild1 Chubby Apes -- couldn't wait to get them on my bike. Thing is, there is no way it will work. Even lowering my forks as much as anyone dared (and maybe even a tad lower than that) and there still was just not enough clearance to make them work.
Your bars can be raised by using specially made risers like those from Rox Handlebar Risers or Loner Industries or by using dog bone risers or by swapping out the top tree if you have a 2008 or 9 with built in risers.
I admit im not the best at explaining things, rather far from it.
The only thing that seems to work on the 08' later models of the streetbob are 1" bars.
It sucks but untill i can afford a new top triple that utilizes the old riser style im stuck.
Carlini apes "step down" to 1" to fit into the 1" integrated riser of the 09's. You just have to lower the forks about a quarter inch to keep them from touching the tops of the triple tree. Hope that helps.
I just ordered a set of 1.25" bars to put on my 08 SB and thought I'd be just fine with the 1" step down for the risers. NOPE. WTF was Harley thinking with the stupid built in risers anyway!?!?! they look silly and now its back to the internet parts counter to fix the issue.(wont give the stealership any more $$) Does anyone know a place to get a good deal on a top tree? And some risers too i guess....
