You can do it if you have a short enough tool to get in there without damaging the belt. I used a GearRachet and a cut-off torx tip. Any similar setup should work.
I'll check the torx size it a few.
That's a great tip, but I'll betcha dollars to donuts, he is talking about the one on the brace (just left of your wrench head)
thanks everyone - so its a T45 for the brace to the swingarm and a t30 that holds the guard itself to the brace? Its the T30 I was working on.....just went out and bought a blow torch; I was gonna try to heat it up and hit it again......
That is correct, T30 for the belt guard brace, T45 for the foot peg mount (to the frame).
Be careful with that torch and don't set the woods afire heh heh
Good luck!

I am I missing something here?
I thought he was trying to get the upper belt guard off not the passenger peg bracket? The bolts are 5/16 allen and you can use a 1/4 drive allen socket to remove it. Put some tape on the passenger peg bracket as a precaution if you use a 3/8 drive 5/16 allen socket. Did they go to a torx in 08'? Torx or allen a 1/4 or 3/8 drive with an extension will work. You definitely have to go at it straight on, if your at any sort of angle you'll round it out.

I got a streetbob so no passenger peg mounts to deal with...yes they are torx (I HATE torx bits....whoever invented them should be drawn and quartered) - I was pretty sure it was a T30 but just checking to make sure.
I had a hell of a time with this also. The hex part got stripped so I used a dremel and cut a grove on the top with a metel wheel and used a screw driver head instead of the hex head with a rachet like above.
Get a proper size allen bolt socket and seat it and then a coupla sharp blows with a hammer. If it is stripped sometimes you can hammer a torx bit into the allen head opening and loosen the bolt.
I'm with CBZ1200n on this one. Spray a shot of WD 40 on the backside of the Allen screw holding the guard on the foot rest bracket, then loosen and remove the screw with a 90 degree allen wrench or opt for a ratchet w/a allen bit. I guess the question is why remove the bracket to remove the guard? Just wondering.

Just trying to get the belt guard off .....Its a Torx not an allen on mine (08 streetbob)...also no passenger peg bracket on mine

Well, if you have not striped it out yet I would use a 3/8 drive torx socket and use an impact driver to hopefully break it loose. If it strips then you're lucky you don't have to remove or work around the passenger peg and drill all the way through the center of the bolt and easy out the bolt. Drilling all the way through relaxes the tension of the bolt. Drill in steps to the largest size easy out you can use. Oh, "easy out" is a misnomer!
Just my suggestions and good luck, you will get it out just take your time.
