I think it can be done with over the counter parts....
maybe... depends exactly which tank.
Not familiar with any *fuel pump opening* (sportster tank??)
mud
The OP was asking about a fuel tank for a Dyna not a Sportster. I assume a FI Dyna is like the rest of the Big Twins. The fuel pump is mounted in the tank under the dash. When you take the dash off, there is a plate that comes out that has the fuel pump fastened to it. If you compare a FI tank to a carbed tank, the carbed tank is closed in that area. You can put a cover on that opening on a FI tank, then use a petcock adapter to put a petcock on.

With earlier bikes, have a FI tank has a hole in the middle for a fuel pump. Look at the pic in my last post. A carbed tank does not. A FI tank has quick disconnect fuel fittings. A carbed tank threads for a petcock......At least that is the way it is on my bike and all the Touring and Softails that I have fooled with. I can't say that I have messed with a FI Dyna, but they sure look the same.
Here is the Pingel adapter needed to put a petcock on a FI tank:
I was in an accident and need to replace the fuel tank on my 05 Dyna Super Glide carbureted.
My question is will a fuel injected fuel tank from a 04, 05 FXD or newer 06 FXD and up work on a carbureted bike?
If it will what modes are required to complete the swap?
If anyone has a 04 or 05 carb fuel tank for sale send me a PM or post.
Thank you in advance.
same part # whether FI or carb. Any 04-09 tank will work. All these other posts are a lot of fun in debating, however our carbed bikes have the same tank as the FI bikes. Pull off the tank console and you will see. Also look at the way the petcock attaches to the tank(mounts to an adaptor). For the final closing proof, contact H-D and cross reference the part#'s.... same part #'s
Heck If you feel it, you could replace your tank with one from an 04+ lowrider or streetbob and get the additional parts so you can mount your speedo on the tank.

I see........So the later bikes use the same tank?.........Earlier bikes do not, at least not the Touring and Softail....They have two different tanks.
