Well, it seems I am always doing something stupid. As a new rider I really challenge myself to learn something every ride and improve my skills. I had been planning a ride today for a week and went through with it even though it was darn cold. I was filling up to head out and wanted to get the tank full as I have filled up several times and not been 3/4 full. Well, I got it full alright. Overflowed gas on the bike everywhere and the whole state of KY. I was seriously peaved. I went through with the ride, which was great outside of losing all feeling in my hands due to the cold. I gave my baby a nice bath when I made it home even though it was sprinkling; had to get the gas off. I have an 09 SB with black denim paint. Sure my mistake will shorten the life of the paint.
It is a rite of passage, at least your not going to drive off and forgetting to turn on the fuel petcock. Get your bike started and forgot the forks were still locked and here's one more, forgetting about the disc lock on the front wheel and trying to drive off. A lot of us have been there.
Never spilled gas in my life, whats wrong with you son? Heck there was one time I was filling up my GTO and the sprng on the nozzle came off and dropped into the tank. That thing came out and drenched me in gas before the auto shut off stopped the flow. I stripped down to my shorts, threw the gased up clothes in the can and went home for a shower.
Doh! I've not had the misfortune of overfilling..... yet.
Please tell me this is a right of passage.
So is dropping it, carelessly. I got mine out of the way on Thanksgiving morning by not paying attention to sand in an intersection; my wife got it taken care of this afternoon by forgetting to put her landing gear down when she stopped.
No worries dude, if that's the worst thing you ever do, be happy.
BTW: I've heard that you can drop the bike on yourself if you speed away with a lock on the disk.
Luckily it was an Enduro.
