Well there is about $400-500 in parts. Dealer said it's about 5-6 hrs @ whatever your dealer charges per hour (figure $70/hr). That is not including price of cams. You'll easily be close to $1000.

I bought a set of new Andrews cams on ebay from a guy that changed his mind. Picked them up for $189 and once I bought the gaskets I needed and other misc parts I was in for under $350. The installation was a breeze and saved me a ton of cash for some one elses labor. Best bang for the buck in my opinion.

When I recently spoke to my local dealer about warranty (since mine still has 1 yr to go) he said it would be void. He also said "if we put in a set of SE cams the warranty would be void." he did say they would warranty any non-cam related issues but it would be up to them to determine cause.

So, you may want to consider that as a deciding factor being it's still within the first year of warranty.

As far as prices...

Adj pushrods - hd $165 +/-
cam install kit - hd $70 +/-
Gasket kit - hd $50 +/-
lifters $100 +/-

Thats about $400 in parts. I have $250 into a set of Woods tw6 cams. Got 'em used from an hdf member. I think I could do the install but I lack a garage and my yard is mostly sand. Having a gust of wind come along and fill the cam chest with sand would not be good. I'm sorta stuck getting it done.

That's fu**in retarded, it's a easy job. Bigdadi ya mentioned your good with mechanics & ya got a service manual. Not sure of your future plans as far as your build, but call a couple shops mentioned on here...t-man, woods, baisley, Dave Mackie ect. then you'll have a good idea of what you'll need to do for what kind of power ya want wether it be cams only or cams now & bb with heads later or whatever. What ever you end up doin your goin with cams no matter what & you can easily change them out with the manual & a fair knowledge of mechanics!

I'm probably gonna pull on some Wood gear-driven cams in the next 6 months or so...as with everything else on my bike I'll be installing them myself...hopefully getting the tune right afterwards will hopefully be a fairly easy process with the Thundermax setup.

Honestly it was a cake walk. the hardest part was jumping around in the manual to find the right info. I went with bolt in cams so I kept the original pushrods. I took my time made sure I double checked every thing before I buttoned up the came chest.

As far as warranty, they won't warranty the cams but to deny any warranty they have to prove the cams caused the problem.

I just put in a set of tman cams. Not hard at all. Just make sure and check the gear spacing when you do it. You also might consider getting a new oil bypass spring from Baisley or Zippers while you're in there too. Most time consuming part was the adjustable pushrods. As long as you have the space and manual, it's not a big deal. Just take your time. Good luck!

SC, if you were closer, we'd be all over them suckers!!!
