Hey guys so I went on a bit of parts buying spree and picked up a set of black sideshots for my 08 street bob. I've installed slip on's before on 2 different bikes but never installed a full system that had to deal with the exhaust flanges on the motor. My question is are the flanges supposed to fit snug against the jugs or is there a space. I noticed that there wasn't a clean line where they were installed to begin with so im thinking that they were about an 1/8 of an inch or less away stock. Gonna fire it up tomorrow morning and see if I can hear any exhaust leak. Man those things were a bitch. Hope its worth it. They do look badass. I also picked up a tank lift from Jackyl and a set of lowering blocks for the rear. Cant wait to ride it and see how it all feels together. I will try and post some pics asap. Thanks for any help in advance.
wheeeew good I thought so. Yea.....I didnt replace the gasket. Its got 2000 some miles on it and it looked like it seated ok. I guess I will find out tomorrow. Oh picked up the pipes for $269 brand new on ebay. Been watching for 6 months for these pipes. Finally got a deal. I hate paying retail.
Love the sideshots! My wife thinks they are "hot" so that's a plus. Sounds deeper and a bit more mean at idle than the slip-ons My dad said he didn't even know it was me coming up the road when I went to show him my new parts. Feels like the bike has a bit more umph by the seat of the pants feel. Just kinda wants to go. NO popping or anything just great sound and feel. Very happy with what i've done. Thanks to this forum. Love this place!
I think extra hands would be nice for taking the stock pipes off but all in all its a one man job. The sideshots suck because they aren't independent so when your bolting them to the heads they must both go on the studs at exactly the same time. Not cool. It took me about 3 hours to do the whole job I think. Getting the pipes on the heads was the longest part. BUT TOTALLY WORTH ALL THE WORK!
I'm plannin to swap pipes soon for first time too, you said was a bytch how long did it take? 1 man job or do you need extra hands?
More hands can help. I have had mine on and off enough times now that its no problem by myself. Just the other day I had mine off to swap out baffles. Took just over an hour. That included figuring and drilling new baffle location.
Also a tip for you. Place a towel or large rag over the trans area that way if you drop one of the nuts it will get caught in the rag.
