Just take it easy. Be prepared when you are coming out of the the low spot in the lane as it will take less pressure on the bars once you are up on the high spot. Be vary cautious on the round abouts. Cars might think you are exiting when you are not.
Also being in the military keep your old pipes. I am on my third tour in Germany and they are now checking the db level when you register the bike. They only allow only 95db when measured at approx 3,000 rpms. Slipons make it easy to add the stock muffler back on for inspections.
What Branch are you in. Army here with 21yrs and counting.

Just be aware when you go across those groves. You'll only have trouble if you get surprised. I try to hit them in as acute an angle as I can. You can also find uneven pavement in the center lane and on entrance and exit ramps. No big deal in a car but can be with a bike. Railroads tracks are also a problem esp. if they go across the road at an angle. Again try to go across them as close to perpendicular as possible. Not as dangerous as it might sound but you do have to be A LOT more aware of road conditions then when driving a car.
At least your taking the safety course. I had never ridden a M/C when I bought my first bike in 1964 and the "course" took place in the dealer parking lot. Consisted of "one down, 3 up, clutch on left, brakes on the right, good luck". Wrecked on the first day.
