Default FWD controls?

I got a good bead on a SWEET set of billet tribal FWD controls but they say they fit Softails for $170. They say they retail for way more and I hate to pass on them. Whats the difference in those and the ones to fit Dyna's? Will they fit with different linkage /modified?

Hey lowridermike, not sure what the difference is,but before you put fwd controls on,what type of riding do you do.Just cruising around town,or take long trips.
Now this is just me,not sure if anyone else agrees,I like to switch back an forth between mid controls and highway pegs when on long trip.I think if you only have fwd controls, would get uncomfortable on a trip.I do love looks of fwd controls, but don't think I would like them on trip.Check out website easternperformance.com ,they have some decent prices on forward controls,at least they did when I was thinking about them.

At that price, it's cheap enough to experiment. I've always wondered myself. I've inspected softails next to my WG and the mounting holes look different. I always thought,"why not just drill a new hole or two?" I say give it a try. Where can you get a set of nice billet foward controls for under a weeks paycheck nowadays???

If they don't fit, I'm sure you can get your money back out of them.

You can always leave your mid pegs in place, and fold them down when on long trips to allow for the new foot position.

As stated, everyone is different, I personally am VERY comfortable on long trips with only forwards, I can position my foot on the peg several different ways if need be for a little variety.
As far as mounting Softail controls on a Dyna, the mounts may be angled differently depending on which versions you get and have. Also depends on if you are keeping the mechanical brake linkage or going hydraulic. There are a few differences, but if you know your way around a garage, nothing that cannot be overcome with a little ingenuity. Question is if the low price is worth your time to modify? Personally I like doing things I am told can't be done, so that part has it's own rewards.

I'm with you on this. The Controls on the manufacturer website list for $825. I think for that price I could make an adaptor or something to make em work. I'm going to buy them and we'll see what happens.

Be sure to take some progress pics so we can see how you made them work. Good luck. Where you from Mike?

Mike:

The rear brake master cylinder is mounted up front by the peg, vice at the rear of the frame like the Dynas ... take a look at my posts (WRT floorboards) and I show how I did the rear brake conversion to Softail style ... it's not that difficult, but a little involved ....

Also, you should be able to configure a work around for the Softail forwards, similar to the method I (or Rick Miller aka Ackman1968) did with our boards ....

Short answer to your question, it can be done, but it'll take a little doing ....

[Also just occurred to me, you might PM or search posts by forum member ggibson who just adapted Softail forwards to his Dyna ....]

Seems like you could mount them as-is with the master cylinder up front and a high quality brake line running all the way to the caliper in the rear.....
