Default Primary Removal Question

Just got forward controls and I need to remove the primary. I've read about some people making their own primary drive locking tool. Just wondering what the length is and what you made it out of. Also any pictures would be great.

It is 7" long, 1" wide and 1/4-1/2" thick. I made this one. It's .5" thick

Get a good rubber door stop (triangle) and wedge it in between the chain and sproket...just like the real tool. The door stop might need some trimming because the first 1/2" or so isnt needed and will get chewed up pretty bad.

In a pinch you can use a 2X4 wedged in there.

just use an impact if you have one.
no need for a lock unless using hand tools

I was going to use the impact to take it off, but wouldn't you need to lock it for torquing it when you put it back together.

Yep, it needs to be locked for the final torque. Just about anything will work that is wedge shaped, just make sure it isnt stronger than the sprockets or chain.

Does anyone know what size sockets are needed for the two fasteners on the engine and the clutch?

Thanks

personaly if i could do it ALL OVER AGAIN... i would leave the little peg sticking out of the primary and get a nice chrome cap for it, leaves you open to go back to mids... i stated that i never would want to go back... now i do, just for once in a while ripping turns and when my girl wants to take the bike for a ride
