another powedercaoting question...
Should i powdercoat my new apes at the spot where the risers will grip onto them? I just had them done an the powdercaoter didnt do them at the spots the risers grabbed...the problem is that he did them wrong and i have to bring them back to get recoated...should i have him just coat all the bars and not worry about where the risers will grab?
any help on this would be great...it seems like my bob is taking forever...
thanks J

That area must be left bare so the riser clamp can "bite" into it. If you get it powder coated you will likely have problems keeping the bars tight. There's nothing like cruzing down the road at 60 mph, hit a bump and the handlebars push forward!
I just had my stock bars done gloss black for my fat bob and i did the whole thing..rode for 150 miles on some of the ****tiest roads in the east coast (RI) and havent had a problem ...there is knurled area where the upper and lower clamps sit and it would take a heck of alot of powder to fill them in..good luck just had mine all apart and glad it back together =-)
two schools of thought... one is the lazy, that just tapes off the grip section, the other that does it right and tapes off the riser contacts and the grips...either way they will both work.... what you coater did is right... on my bike cause i have custom risers when i powder my bars i powder the center cause you can see a good portion of them... on customer rides i usually ask what type of riser set up they have... honestly man... it does not matter... that 2mm of powder is not going to change anything
