Default Pillion pad

After riding 230 miles with a back pack on to visit my friends for the weekend, I refused to ride home with the back pack on pulling on my shoulders the whole time. While i was up there, i went to the harley dealer and bought, the pillion pad and the little short sissy bar to add on the my 06 superglide so that i could bungee cord the back pack down and not have to carry it.
The install went great and i rode home in extreme comfort due to the pillion pad adding a significant amount of back support. One thing the kinda bugs me, is that the pillion has a plastic piece that bolts to the stock solo to extend the seat, but the seat is a little flimsy or loose in the middle. Did anybody else have this problem? is so how do you fix it, or did you just live with it?
FYI when installing the passenger foot peg mounts, the instruction saw you have to loosen the back wheel and pop off the belt to gain access to the mounting holes on the left side. If you use a 3/8 ratchet with a 1 inch extension on the torx on the back bolt, and no extension with a universal on the front bolt, you can pull on the belt enough so that you dont have to remove it.

WHAT?!?!?! I've got everything in my garage to put on the rear seat and sissy bar, the rear pegs are on back order. Is there no other way to do it?? I cant imagine it's designed like that.

It's funny, the instructions I got with my pillion footrest bracket seat said nothing about releasing the tension on the belt but it's easy to see how it helps. What I did was spray WD40 on the capscrews, leave it for a bit then go at it with the T45 bit inserted through a ring spanner (wrench). That did the trick without having to mess round with the belt tension.

The pillion pad: I used the bumper kit as instructed (thinking I could peel these guys off later and revert to solo) and bolted up the rear seat. It does seem sort of flimsy but does work ok. I then installed the missus and pointed the bike towards Cornwall for sun, surf and san^h^h^lager. Returning a week and 600 hundred miles later, I removed the seat to see how much damage the pillion set up had caused my fender. Considerable. A staple from the seat had chewed into the primer. Where the seat vinyl conected with the paint under compression left a crazing in the top coat. Some of this may buff out ok but certainly not all. Unlike the Murpheys, I'm as bitter as hell. [:@] Do the guys on dressers get this problem?

I paid a shedload to import a Motherwell rack and may now never use it.

I added another hole to the strap and it didn't tighten it to where i want. I actually think the grab strap is causing the seat to pop up a little and i'm thinking of removing it. I'd rather have the chicks hands on me then a damn strap. I was thinking, i might be able to put the bolt threw the top of the plastic piece between the pillion and seat and jack up the bike and put on a nut threw the stock seat mount hole fromt under neath. It will make it harder to remove the seat but it will be really stable.

Same here. The kit comes with a metal receiver you bolt to the stock solo, and a metal clip that attaches to the pillon. A lot sturdier then just the plastic *permanent* connection.

Do you have the part number for the quick detach kit? Chicago Harley tells me the passenger peg brackets are expected to come off of backorder by the 15th, so I'll be adding the pillion then. That quick detach sounds like a good plan.

I used this kit And cut out a notch in the plastic connector panel to attach the pillon to the solo.

DyNaBob,

Did you have any signs of rubbing or damage to your rear fender when using the quick detach kit you described?
