Default Battery replacement question

I'm going to replace the battery in my 05 FXDCI, and I need to order the HD one because the battery is exposed. Can someone help me with the HD part number so I'm sure to order the correct one?

How long are you guys running batteries before replacement? I like to replace mine about every 4 years max.

Call a dealer parts department.

Also, you can go to HarleyDavidson.com. HarleyDavidson.com lists the OEM battery for the 2005 FXDCI at this URL: http://www.harley-davidson.com/gma/g...bmLocale=en_US

After I posted this, I did some hunting and yep, that's the same number I came up with. I was tempted by the multitude of OEM replacement batteries, but since mine's exposed I need the Harley one otherwise it'd look awfully weird.

Thanks guys. My battery is still working fine, but I have a few long trips coming up this month and I don't want to get stuck somewhere with a 4 year old battery. Been there, done that. It sucks.

Save yourself time. Before posting and waiting for replies, check (a) harleydavidson.com, (b) call a HD parts dept. and/or (c) search via Google.com. I know nothing about your bike and found the answer in less time than it took for me to respond.

I guess I am behind the times, cause I can't understand why you would have to buy a harley battery, just to get the logo? Not trying to be flip about this, just that there are plenty of very good after market batteries that would fit the bill. If the exposed part posed a problem, it seems a small thing to cover that up. I ride an older bike, maybe the new bikes have special needs.

I just replaced the battery in my '05 FXD with 65989-97B ... the battery actually died on me ... fortunately I was just tooling around town and my OL came and picked me up ...

It's not just the logo, it's the entire battery that's exposed. I don't really want to hang any more chrome on my bike, and I know they make a chrome battery cover, but I figured by the time I saved a couple bucks on an aftermarket battery and bought the chrome cover that I don't really want, I would've spent the same, or more, as the $99 HD battery.
