Has anyone had experience with the discontinued toolbox that bolts just behind the battery cover on Dynas. They seem to fit awfully close to the rear fender and have a rubber stick on bumper pad attached to the back of the mounting bracket.I'm wondering if anyone has had their paint damaged on the fender from rubbing. The part number is 64245-97.
I've got it on mine, I love it. I connected my battery tender pigtail into the toolbox with a Powerlet passthrough so I can charge my cellphone inside it. No problems thus far with rubbing, but I have no plans to take it off so even if it does, no one will ever see it.
There's still a few dealers that have them. I drove up to NJ to get mine. They are a nice fit if you have the correct year, 05 and below. I still havent been successful on making a mount for my 06. Anyone been able to do it on one?
Doubt you'll find it online like that. I did the same thing, and no one really had them in stock. My dealer gave me a list of the dealers throughout the country that showed in stock in their computer. Called the closest one and got it.
I put one on my '00 FXDL a few years ago. No paint damage that I notice, but I have never taken it off.
I carry a bunch of stuff:
Extra pair of clear lens glasses for night riding
adjustable wrench
interchangeable screwdriver
shop rag
extra contact lens
cell phone
small WD40
tire gauge
(2) small bungees
insurance card, copy of registration, PBA card, tow service card
Probably forgetting something. It's not huge but it gives you someplace to stash some stuff when the bike is stripped down and you don't have any other bags with you.

I just took one off of my bike to put my new tins on. The bracket is sturdy as hell and it did not get into the fender. I had it on there for 4 years. You are right though, it does mount close. I am still debating as to whether or not I am going to put it back on. I do love it. You can store a bunch of stuff in that little box.
I've been looking one for a while. One will show up on ebay every now & then; more then that now.
Would really like to see more things for the Dyna that have been discontinued. Like 1/4 fairings, larger hard bags, tool box, etc. Used to be some really cool stuff. I saw a large set of hard bags on an older sportster on saturday. Would look great on my dyna, but they are "obselete" now.
