Looks good.

But you never posted any pictures of the back side of the timing cover to show how it is mounted. Can you give details on what you finally did?

Looks great. You have inspired me. I have a black finned derby cover on my fatbob and am going to try the same horn project with a black finned timing cover on a round horn cover .
. I don't know yet if the round horn body will be black or chrome. Mike

Thanks again for the great comments. I did originally drill and tap the Harley Smooth Horn Cover (68189-07) in order to mount the timer cover (32047-99A) but I didn't feel there was enough meat to hold it on so I wound up just getting some 8-32 nuts, #8 lock washers and some very tiny rubber washers (from the plumbing dept of my local hardware store). I took the enclosed torx bolts that came with the timer cover, slipped them into the holes in the timer cover, put the little rubber gasket over the bolt the inserted bolt through the holes drilled in the horn cover. I then put the lock washers over the bolt from the inside of the horn cover, slapped a little locktite on the threads and tightened it up.
The rubber washers are very tiny and actually sit between the back side of the timer cover and the front side of the horn cover. They're actually little O-rings used for some plumbing application. Damned if I know but they are tiny enough that you don't see them from the side. I felt something needed to be in between the two pieces not just chrome on chrome. The bolts are short enough that they don't even come close to hitting the horn once it is all put together but if you wanted to be real neat and tidy you could take a 1/4 or so off the torx bolts included in the timer cover package.
Sorry for no pix of the inside portion of the horn cover. No offense but I'm not taking it off to get pics. It is really nothing special, it looks just like it sounds as explained above. Just don't make the same mistake I did, make sure the top (12 o'clock) hole on the timer cover lines up with the mounting tab on the back of the horn cover.
Any way, that is the long story.
Thanks again for all the compliments.

Jimbobob,
I saw the damage on the cooling fin for the first time myself while I was installing it. I know it wasn't there last year. Either I took a hard hit from a rock recently that I don't remember or someone had a mishap in the garage and decided not to tell Daddy in order to avoid the wrath.
That really sucks!!
