Default Gas Cap

This sounds crazy but I just bought a 2000 Dyna and found that I cannot turn the gas cap! It doesn't seem to be a locking gas cap. Has anyone else had this problem? Could someone have tightened it too tight?

I've heard of that before. Probably going to have to ruin it with channel locks and replace it once you get it off.

channel locks should do you may not wreck it if you put some rubber leather or cloth between the cap and the grips-be careful not to touch the console too! Good Luck!

Uh the left cap is your gas guage... But use a rubber strap wrench on the right one.

On the 2000 there's only one gas cap in the middle of the console with a small guage below it. I've been riding for over 2 years and have never seen anything like it. I'll give the channel locks a shot. thanks.

Default Gas Cap

Strap wrench is the best bet unless you just want to damage it.

It's the new Harley child proof gas cap.

Sounds like the ratchet mechanism is acting up. It usually takes about 3/4 of a turn for the cap to start opening. Get a replacement on hand in case you wreck the original then you can cap off the fuel tank with the replacement and no ride time lost, if not needed return it.

I used an oil filter wrench with terry cloth. It didn't even scratch the chrome. Thanks.
