Change oil in all three holes, adjust clutch, check belt tension, check critical fasteners, and check the neck bearings (fall-away).

My on 08 DWG and my wife's 09 DXL the neck bearings were very loose. Both clutches needed adjustment and so did the belts. The motor mounts were also loose. If you follow the manual it's not hard but inspection doesn't mean "look at it with your eyeballs".

I do it myself not so much for the savings (which I like) but to ensure this stuff is actually done.

If you are lazy you can go to the hd website, plug in your model and milage and they will give you the checklist of what service need be done at the closest recommended interval Spoke tightness on laced wheels, belt deflection, primary chain tension, timeing, (hell, thats a pita in itself) Get the manual and the schedule and diy by all means. It's cheaper but don't think it starts and ends with an oil change. And before you ask, no I don't work for the MoCo or a dealer, but I have been wrenching on my own stuff for 50 years. There is more to it than you think.

I got my first service at the eastern performance (local performance shop) it was much cheaper then the moco. I was going to attempt if myself but I was told by a group of bikers that I should atleast, atleast get the first service done by someone that knows what they are looking for because after the first 1000 things get loose and I wanted to make sure the warranty was covered. I got a couple bad stories that I just said **** it and got it done.

Did your bike come with a manual? All you need to know is in there. Most people can do it themselves.

Spokes. Loose spokes can destroy a wheel real fast. Check them at 1,000 and again at 5,000 and then every 5,000 after that. They are sometimes overlooked with bad results.
