hey guys... my buddy is going to swing by the dealership on the way home to pick me up some new fork oil... i need to know how many quarts to tell him to grab me... my serv manual is at home.
* also i am planning on just dropping in new progressive lowering springs (thanks chad peterson for hooking that up)
and going with a 15w fork oil... any opinions on this? i want it to stiffin up a bit but NOT too much (I tour alot)
thanks guys!
From my 09 manual. 26.6 oz per leg, or 110mm from the top of the tube. Cycle the fork up and down about ten times before final measurement. I run BelRay 15W and could not be happier. I used the SE in my brothers roadking and he seems to be happy.
Killer! thanks guys!!! my buddy just sugested that i mix 1/2 SE and 1/2 reg oil... he said it levels out to 12w... i think that that will be perfect for what i need! Tweeken does your brother think that the SE is stiff?
Like other said the manual says about 26oz but you will use less with the Progressive springs. Progressive recommends 5.5 inchs from the top of the tube and like Tweakin said you got to get the air out before final measurement.
My local Indy doesnt like the HD fork oil at all and had me go with BelRay 20 weight when I put my progressive springs in. I like it alot so far and isnt to stiff at all to me. It handles better and is smoother over bumps vs stock.
15w might stiffen it too much Joe. When I did my lowers (the screwed up ones) I added 20w and man was that stuff STIFF. I did go back to the HD type E which I believe to be 5w. I have my Ricors here with amsoil 10w. I may or may not get them installed this weekend.
If you get the HD type E, you need to buy 5 bottles because they sell it in pints. The 5th is just in case. You'd really only need 4. You never know when an "oooops" is gonna happen.

not too stiff at all. The SE is a 15W oil, unless I am mistaken. I run lowered Progressive springs and BelRay 15w and it is ****. I weigh 180lbs.
