Default Derby Cover

Picking up the HD Black Fin derby cover and wanted to know if I have to remove some of the tranny fluid, or do I just have a helper tilt the bike to the opposite side when I put it on. Is a new gasket a must ?

Thanks,

Christian

Stand it upright you should be fine... fluid is lower than the derby cover... gasket is reusable.

You can reuse the gasket as long as your new derby cover takes the rubber gasket. Some replacement ones require the old pancake style gasket.

The HD black finned derby cover does require the pancake style gaskit. I did the same not too far back and the rubber ring gasket for the stock cover fits in a small grove that is not there on the black finned replacemant

Your going to need a new gasket.
The factory derby covers use an o-ring style gasket, and most of the accessory covers won't work with that gasket.

Pick up gasket part # 25416-99C at your local dealer.

If you do have to replace fluid, make sure it is the same as what you have in there. I am running different fluids in the primary and tranny.

The pancake gaskets don't seal worth a crap, i run a thin bead out ultra blue around mine to seal it. Also, your primary fluid should be at the bottom of the oppening. If it spils over when you pull the cover it was over filled.
