It's nice having mud, water, rocks and dirt thrown all over your engine and yourself.

Talking Fork Brace with Chromed Lowers

Not to steal the thread, but I was wondering about your forks and the fork brace. Looks like you have chromed lowers...Harley's description for fork braces say that they will not fit with chrome lowers...Did you have any problems mounting them? I'm considering doing the same.

Yes; chrome lowers kit with the big chrome dustcaps (neither of which are s'posta allow the SE Brace). The brace clamps fit the chrome lowers just fine. Because the new dustcaps overhang the step in the top of the lowers (instead of butting flush to the step), my choices were to raise or trim the new caps by about 3/16", or fully seat the un-altered caps and mount the brace just below the bottom edge of them. Opting for this path, the brace would now interfere with the fender by about 1/8"+. I removed the fender and took it to my brother's place. He has a benchtop mill from Harbor Freight. We drilled overlapping holes, making each one into a figure-8, then filed off the waist of the 8's (more positioning flexibility) as can be seen in the above picture. This gave me about 2 shop-rag-folds of clearance between the fender and brace. Bottom line; it's doable.

this maybe off topic to some degree, but i have seen a few bobs, and glides on the forum with 21" front wheels. i have planned on putting a 21 on my bob for about a year now and have already purchased the wheel and tire. I think i will have to remove the front fender or lengthen the holes on the fender. but the look i am going for would be to just get rid of the fender all together.

DB113;
I've read posts here that going to the 21" really doesn't affect the tread-to-tread diameter enough to require modifying your fender. Maybe someone with direct experience will jump in to confirm that. Take a quick measure across your 21" tire and compare it to your current wheel. Or go to the Dunlop/Michelin/Metzler website and check their specs table for diameters of your stock size tire and a 21".

don't need to mod the fender for a 21" wheel.

I really dig the look of my bike without the fender, but don't like getting crap or water sprayed up in my face, so keep it on most of the time ...

I really like my sig pic without the fender, but haven't had it like that in almost a year ...

I really think the fat tire looks tough without a fender ....
