My 08 SB had the same problem from new and still is even after 10,000miles still is hard to find neutral.
Its also impossible to get neutral unless the motor is going.
Clutch has been adjusted by dealer fluid is correct level still hard to find neutral.
Funny, the neutral thing being very easy on my particular Fat Bob, is one of the little enjoyments that are added to the myriad of other "things" that summed together, add up to the total enjoyment of my HD. I leave my tranny in first gear when I park the bike when out and about. As I suit up when readying for riding again, I can stand beside the bike and gently click the tranny up into neutral with an easy nudge. I also enjoy the easy, quiet snick into first gear when at a traffic light -- on those occasions that I am in neutral when stopped at a traffic signal.
Most all my current and previous bikes make a decided and loud clunking thud when selecting first gear.

I have an '09 Superglide and just had the same problem. If you roll it a little it may help with the gear alignment and it will slip into neutral easier.
In my experience, a thick primary fluid or tight clutch adjustment causes this. My experience is limited so I'm sure there are other things. On my evo FLHR, the primary chain tightness also matters.
09 fatbob here and finding neutral is a bitch. finding neutral from 2nd is easier than from first but it's not easy to say the least. coming to a red light is a constant battle finding the neural.
Why wouldnt you? I do the same in a car with a manuel trans. Why would you sit there holding in the clutch waiting for the light to turn green. Thats nuts. Some red lights around here take over 2 mins to turn green.
Uhh you should be ready to move the hell out of the way at a seconds notice in case some idiot doesn't stop behind you. I have never put any car or bike I've ever owned in neutral at a red light. Just seems odd to me. Doesn't take that much strength to hold the clutch in for a few minutes.
