I have a new, stock 2009 FXD ( Yea! ). I've been through the dyna forums and can't find an answer to my question about exhaust anywhere... I want to get some better sounding pipes but I do not want to go the whole route with new intake and fuel manager. Several members have talked about just putting on slip ons with no need to do anything else. Others disagree. I do not have much mechanical experience with harleys.. A7's and P3's yes, but that doesn't help much here.
So, my question is this: If you put cosmetic and sound issues ( brands ) aside and just consider the technical, is exhaust back pressure the real issue here on the "health" of the motor? Probably there are some stats on back pressure on stock FXD pipes. If that is available then it would seem that the aftermarket pipes with the closest back pressure to stock would be the least invasive to a stock 96 Harley motor, right?
Baffles probably factor in here too. So, what slip on do I get based on the science? Also, I'm really not looking to up the HP....just don't want it to go down. TIA for your help.
get yourself and older set of SEII slip ons... the sound great, you dont have to mod anything just put them on... as long as you dont change your intake you really will not have to do a turner with most 2-2 pipes you go with
Joe's always right. I got my FXD right from the dealer and had Rush slip on's put on and the dealer said same thing as Joe. But just as soon as I got them put on I had to have the real thing and got a set of BigShots. Heres a few pictures of both. Anything is better than stock.
Definitely don't need anything else. A good set of slip ons will work fine. Lotta people are happy with rush slip ons. I had V&H straight shot slip ons. I liked them a lot. They had a VERY nice sound to them... so with that being said, I'd suggest those. Good luck!
