Wow, how much of a pay cut did you have to take?
Like others have said, you own more on your bike than it's worth. But that is how it is with any new vehicle (car or bike).
Unless you put down a large down payment, they depreciate faster than you can make payments on them.
Now with that said, at least you didn't lose your job completely like some have.
I believe I would try and make cuts in other areas, but your the only one that would know whats right for you.
Maybe you've already looked at other cuts. Go out to eat less, movies, other entertainment?
Selling the bike would be a last resort for me, especially if I was going to lose money on it.
But if you have to, take the loss and sell it before it does any damage to your credit.
Sucks - I know. I put myself into a trick bag over the winter & had to sell my bike in January. Fortunately, I've been able to bounce back - and picked up a new ride already.
Recently coming from both a sellers perspective & a buyer's perspective - there are a LOT of bikes out there - including those "too good to be true" deals where someone hits rock bottom and takes super low ball offers simply because they need X amount of dollars ASAP - regardless what the bike may be worth. That's where I more or less was. Guy who bought my bike got a STEAL of a deal.
In my buying adventure, I came across person after person who was in the same boat as you: they just wanted payoff to be free of that extra monthly payment. Good luck. 09's are going to be a tough sell when there's a good share of 06, 07 & 08's with similar miles and more extra's selling for 10,000 - 11,000 on average.
Explore all your options. Talk to people who're hip on finances. I "thought" I explored my options only to find out about 2 weeks after I sold the bike that, well, I probably didn't even HAVE to...oh well - it all worked out & I now have a newer bike with a bigger motor & cooler paint job...so I don't have bags anymore....big deal!
man i am sorry to say but it sounds like your upside down on the bike right now... you owe more or about what it is worth... man... so sorry to hear about this man... Plasma is NO WHERE NEAR 200 a month! i had fraternity brothers that used to donate all the time! it pays like 70 tops a month... sucks!
I know someone that is looking to purchase an 09 FXDC right now, so if you are serious about selling let me know and I will tell him about your bike. He lives in GA so he may be a bit stingy on the price to make it worth his while regarding travel to pick it up.
Anyway, sorry to hear about your current and pending losses. Might be better to hold on to it if you are looking at a loss on what you owe.
On the other hand you could find one of them shady characters and get them to steal the bike and collect the insurance on it, I would not advise it, but it is a possibility.
