Default Check Engine Light

I went out for a quick ride tonight. On the way home I went down a back road and let her have it pretty good. I was in second gear; the bike was pulling strong. Then I felt two hesitations. The only thing I can compare it to is when I used to race dirt bikes and you would bend the teeth on the rear sprocket…How you can feel hesitation when the chain jumps on the sprocket. I got off the throttle and looked down and my check engine light was on. I pulled over as soon as I could and shut the bike down. No sign of fluids leaking anywhere. I started the bike back up about 5 minutes later. The check engine light went off after the normal 5 seconds. I took it easy the rest of the way home.
So my question is, was it the rev limiter? If so, why did the check engine light come on? Does the computer store codes? If so, could I have a dealer plug it in and tell me why the light came on?

Pull the codes and see what they are, rev limiter is not going to throw codes. I would assume some sort of a lean condition or crank sensor, etc. , etc., etc.

Could be just a hiccup, some bad gas. You should be able to kick it all day and she wants more should you be willing. Unfortunately I forgot how to pull the codes and the manual says check electronics manual so no help there.

I hope it was just a hiccup, but I’ve got this real sick feeling in my stomach. I guess I will let the dealer pull the codes and go from there.

Key Off, Kill Switch off, Hold the reset button down on the speedo, turn key on, Speedo goes into self test, watch the dial go back and forth, release button, hold button down, turn on kill switch release button, you'll see PSST and another letter, its late and the Yinglelings are on overtime, The P should be flashing, hold the button down and release see if theres a number code there, click the button again , goes to the next combo of letters, hold the button down and right down the codes , Same for the mext set of letters. Get the manual, look up the codes.

Did I forget anything guys, doing and typing are two different animals

Good luck with that hiccup. Hope it was just something transient.

Thanks for the help folks!! I really appreciate it. This is the code and part number…

P1358 - Intermittent Secondary Rear EFI
Part Number 32725-04

I broke out my service manual but couldn’t really find anything about it there. Hopefully this is what caused the hesitation and not something else. Does anybody know what that part number is? I went to Surdyke and it said the part did not exist. I also found another thread that mentioned something about a fuel map. There is a Power Commander in the bike.

I just did a search on P1358 and one response suggested either the coil, spark plug wire or spark plug.
