Default Steering Lock #@%^*&* Up...

Been reading about it happening to others... now it's my turn..... Read that HD has had a LOT of problems with '06 locks... You'd think they would give the heads up on this... Some DYNA peeps think the pin could drop down while riding with lots of bad things happening.... I can feel the pin above the indent where goes it just doesn't want to come down, I've read of peeps using WD40 with limited success, and also read of peeps having their bike locked and not being able to undo it ... not fun... Mine just won't go to lock, I can still start an run my bike.... Just don't feel comfortable riding like that thou... I read some dressers had actually locked while riding... I imagine it must of been while parking or low speed... turning the bars enough to have the pin fall in place you'd need to be slow...I'm contacting my stealer asap....

Would'nt you have to have the handlebars turned to he extreme left before the "pin" could fall into place? I have never had my bars like that while riding at any speed.

That's what I said."I read some dressers had actually locked while riding... I imagine it must of been while parking or low speed... turning the bars enough to have the pin fall in place you'd need to be slow.".. I don't think it could happen while actually riding at any speed other than parking or at a crawling speed... speed... bars aren't turned during speed..

I don't know if this will help anyone else out if their lock screws up, but, I fixed mine. As I said in my first message mine wouldn't lock, you could put your finger under the fork and feel the indent where the pin goes in to lock the fork, mine wouldn't go in so the key wouldn't turn all the way.. Well I got a mirror and a flashlight looked up and found out there is a cavity next to the lock cylinder and it looked like the pin was out of alignment with the fork pin receiver... So I put my screwdriver in the cavity and pushed against the lock cylinder and bingo the pin moved into the indent and my key which was always a pain to lock up and turn worked great... better than it ever did. So It may help you if yours locks up when your on the road to have screwdriver in the tool pouch... I didn't apply a lot of pressure to move the cylinder so it is loose and probaly should be brought in but at least you can make it home...[sm=biker2.gif]

I had a problem but put 1 spray of WD40 in the lock and bingo.....smooth as silk. Locks easy, starts easy, no more problems. Just don't push in on the key when you turn it. You just insert the key and turn very easily either way.

Hate to put my VRSCA in this mix, but the info is very helpful. Anyone ever tried a product called "Kroil"? It is red, at work we call it "panther ****". It is said to go into spaces that WD40 couldn't even touch. I use it on all of my lubrication needs in place of WD40. It kinda stinks, and I'm not sure if it is compatable with Harley paint, but I'm sure it is and like anything I wouldn't leave it on for long. Just a thought

KBFXDLI and eazy... Your right pushing the key in while turning is a not a good thing.. took me awhile to get used to not doing it... KROIL is great penetrating oil... but expensive.. It looks like ATF and Marvel Mystery Oil... Ok.. I'm weird it doesn't smell too bad...LOL

Had this problem today.

Thanks to WgSkee's advice I was able to fix it in a minute

Strange that the MoCo didn't block the lock cylinder to prevent it from moving in the groove.
Should have been a piece of cake.

I have used Kroil for many years at work, around most manufacturing facilities Kroil is considered the best penetrating oil out there. I always keep a couple of spray cans of it in the garage, but you won't find it in stores. It can be purchased from their website.
