I finally got ahold of a stock Street Bob seat and put it on. As I always suspected, the bike is more comfortable with it.
The bike came with this Sundowner 2-up seat, so I asked the dealer to put a stock seat on since I couldn't stand comfortably (I am 5'10", 30" inseam). The said that "wouldn't help" and instead talked me into a Reach seat for $200.
It's not a bad seat, pushed me forward ok. Somehow it felt higher than a stock seat, though. Every stock Bob I tried I had no problems. I put a couple of k on the bike with the Reach, but still wanted to get a solo seat, so found a used one on ebay. It confirmed what I knew all along.
The seat is definitely lower, and softer. I can flat-foot the bike at lights, and still have no problems with the forward controls. The center of gravity seems better too. My arms were a little stretched to grip the mini-apes, so when I got home I tilted them a couple of degrees back of even with the fork, and it feels perfect.
Still need to fully road-test this set-up, but so far I am pleased.
I have a take off from an 06 and I like it. For two up I run the Touring seat. It's narrower for the rider than the Sundowner and that's why I chose it. Not bad for me but great for the wife. 90% of the time it collects dust and the solo does the work.
I love the look of the 09 SB seat ,but after reading this post I'm glad i got an08 SB seat from steal-bay for 50$!!! Therre were three or four last week, and it looks like guys from this forum got most of them!!!
I must be the only one that likes the stock '09 SB seat...haven't done any real long distance rides, but when I'm gonna take a 4-6 hr ride the stock seat goes on and no pain after the ride.
