Default Rear Fender Questions

Greetings all! This is my second post here, so if I've put this in the wrong place or violated some proceedure, please forgive me. I've got a 2000 Dyna Low Rider that was in a pretty nasty wreck. Among other things, the rear fender needs to be replaced. I actually prefer the rear fender of the Dyna Wide Glide to the normal Low Rider fender. So my first question is: Will I have any major problems fitting a Wide Glide fender on a Low Rider?

I have the Clymer Service Manual for the bike, but it doesn't mention rear fender removal anywhere that I can find. I can see all the places it connects to the frame and the fender struts, but it looks like I might have to remove the rear wheel and shocks to get to all of them. So my second question is: What's the best way to remove the rear fender?

Thanks a lot!

Default RE: Rear Fender Questions

Since no one else replied, I'll answer the question myself in case someone else has the same question. I tackled the fenders last weekend and here's what I found.

The rear fender of a Dyna Wide Glide will have to be cut in order to fit on a Low Rider. The portion that connects to the frame is bigger and shaped differently than that of the Low Rider.

The rear wheel and shocks do not have to be removed in order to remove the rear fender. I'm sure it would make it a lot easier, but I doubt it would be worth the hassle. As long as you can fit your wrench or socket into the space between the tire and the fender, you'll be fine. Once the bolts are removed from the fender struts the fender moves around quite easily, making it possible to get to the bolt connecting the fender to the frame.

Other than the frustration of discovering that the new fender will require extensive modification to work, removing the rear fender was a pretty simple chore.

Thanks to everyone who checked out the topic.

Later!
