I was riding in some real heavy rain yesterday on my 06 wide glide and the left blinker turned on and stayed on until i pushed the right blinker button, i was tring to push the left blinker button but it did no good. Once i pushed the right button than the left button worked fine the rest of the ride. Do you think this would be caused by a shorted out wire or the switch getting wet?
Probably low on blinker fluid. I had a similar problem and the dealer topped the left blinker. He said its from coming to a stop with the blinker on and putting it on te side stand without cancelling the blinker first.
This time was on them, next time I'll have to refill myself. Luckily its only about $10 a gallon from HD.

That reminds me it's time for me to top off my blinker fluid and change the air in my tires.
Not me. When the same thing happened to me it wasn't a damn bit funny. I never thought about turning on the other blinker so I had to keep riding around the block counter clockwise until I ran out of gas.
Want a straight answer for a change? How about this:
Had a friend get caught in a terrific rainstorm and his signals quit. Solved it by squirting WD-40 in the switch housings. WD stands for Water Dispersant. Yup, invented to dry out electrical connections, and performs about a zillion other things too. I'd suspect the contact points.
