on my hands. Getting a little senile or something. Maby Obama will give me a job. I've been messing around with a few things on the bike and would like some feedback on them. Made an A/C cover "insert" with a lightscribe CD, a 1 and 1/4" tank lift, and raised my headlight. What do ya think?
Thanks guys, I think the cd deal looks good too and It's a one of a kind. Fit was easy, my cover is 6.5" round / cd is about 5" and the ctr hole in the cd is larger than the one on my A/C cover, don't really need the washer I've got on there either. Used heavy duty mounting tape (about 3/16" thick) from the grocery store cut in short pieces to hold to the flat cover.
Looks cool. I like it. Clever use of a CD-Rom and it's a totally blank slate for you to be creative with.
I don't want to jynx you, but the label side of CD-Roms are extremely easy to scratch. The average CD has just a few thin layers of plastic on top of the recording surface. I'd be willing to bet you'll be replacing it sooner than you think. You can actually destroy a CD with your fingernail. You don't need anything sharp or metal when you're messing with the label side of a disk.
Oh, and CD's are also extremely susceptible to UV damage from direct sunlight. The metal layer will discolor, fade, most likely bubble away into nothing.
But blank CDs are cheap, right? Make new ones as often you want and have fun experimenting with designs!
