Default SB questions

Hi all, been lurking for a while reading and figured I'd just sign up. Seems like a great forum.

My father got me started into Harley's, he rides an 08 Super Glide.

I currently ride a 07 Kawasaki 650 Ninja, and just fell in love with his Harley after a few rides! So, my bike is up for sale and I have decided on a model, the Street Bob.

One of my questions is: I have rode my fathers with standard forward controls on it. It felt fine, but I have a 34" inseam and it almost seems like my knees might cramp up a bit on longer rides. I've only rode his 20 miles or so and although it felt good, I don't know about longer distances. Would teh +3 forward controls be too much of a reach for me?

I'm in the process of researching and going to order some parts (yes, before I buy the bike, but I'm buying new so no worries) and the Kuryakyn forwards caught my eye. I just hate to order the +3's and it be too much of a reach.

Anyone with any experience in this?

I've also decided on one V&H slip on's as I do love the ones on my fathers and it's a start.

Anyway, great forum and hope to become a regular!

you need to put in more time on your dads machine to figure it out. most don't have that option - seems like you do. if you still don't know - then you probably want to get the standard harley forwards - try them for a while and if they don't give enough room - then buy the kury extension kit (probably about $150). it ends up being a bit more total - but if you jump to the extended right away and they are too far away - then you're stuck and have to get the regular forwards.

I would recommend you keep the mid controls and get highway pegs. It will give you another foot position and you'll save some money.

That is a good point. I don't like riding his bike (just makes me feel awkward, something about riding other guys' bikes) but it would be best if I did. I did not know they made an extension kit...

By the way, the highway pegs are adjustable.

I thought of that option as well. Always thought it looked a bit funny with both, but practical.

I had mids on my Sporty, & when I bought my Bob I left the shop with a box full of stuff...one being the forward controls kit. While I like to standard forwards on the scoot....I do look for other positions to put my legs in. That being said....I would have stayed with the mids & gotten the HWY peg, similare to the set up I had on the sporty, I left my feet on the hwy pegs & shifted & braked with my heals....very easy to get used to.

Thanks for all the feedback guys! I'm going to take this to heart and try a set of hwy pegs (they are cheap compared to full forward controls).

One thing I used to do on my Ninja, is use the frame sliders to keep my legs from cramping on longer rides. I bet I looked goofy but it was nice to stretch out on long trips for sure.

Thanks again.
