I installed the HD Combo tach on my SB last year. It was basically a plug and play. You do NOT lose any of the functions with it. The only real difference is the mileage on the odometer is shown when the ignition is off. I bought it from Zanotti's, gave them the mileage to have on it (which was done at the factory) and they give a discount of course, off the HD price.

Your mileage may vary.......

Rich, that is a good looking tach. Where did you get it? I haven't been able to find one with a white face where the numbers match the speedometer.

Like some members have said, the HD speedo/tach is about $500 and the dealer will write down your mileage so it can be programmed in the new one from the factory. It is a simple plug & play install and should take about 30 minutes. The other option is something like a Dakota digital model, some are said to be plug & play, while others are a full rewire job. I have ridden a dyna with one of the digital ones and honestly have to say I didn't care for it! The whole digital look didn't fit the bike, and it wasn't that visible in direct sunlight! I swapped out my speedo for a HD spun aluminum one and it was plug & play. It is a pretty easy job. The FXDC"I" was used when there was a choice between fuel injected & carb models. Now there all just FXDC

I put one of the $499 HD tach/speedo combos on my 07 FXDB....plug and play...took about 15 minutes to install...also,got mine on EBAY for $200...brand new...if you get it thru a dealer they record your mileage upon ordering and the MOCO sets the mileage on the new odometer 500 miles above that...mine came with 0 miles on it....also the hundreds of color schemes look awesome at night....:>)

I put the combo on my Super Glide and I waas asked what mileage I wanted the new speedo to be set at. I just estimated the amount of riding I would of been doing in the week that it took to get it and just told them when I ordered it, I estimated it at 2750 miles and thats what it came in at. I actually had 2702 miles on the bike when I switched them.
There was no 500 miles added to my speedo when I ordered it.

Default Speedo Tach problems

I purchased the Combo Speedo/Tach July '08 and with in the first month the needle stuck. Called Chicago Harley they send another, I went problem free until May '09. It is the direct sunlight that causes the issuses. I have tested this theory by parking in sunlight for about an hour then going for a ride and the needle sticks, in the shade for an hour with a towel over the gauge and no problem. I can ride in the evenings or early mornings and no problems, after noon, in the summer, forget about it. I plugged the OEM in for a few days and works great.

I called Chicago Harley about a month ago which they told me to call HD Customer service, who told me to take it to the local dealer (Frederick,MD Harley). The service desk person (Ron) looked at it and told me, since I didn't buy it there, or have it installed there wasn't much he could do and walked away. I relayed this back to HD Customer Service, of which they were non to happy with. I now have an appointment on Monday morning at 8:30. Of course it will not act up that early in the day.

Now back to HD customer service. They told me there is only a 90 day warranty on parts, I about fell on the floor. But, it gets, better, CS told me they want to verify it is not an install issue. Come on, with the instructions they provide a 10 year would feel comfortable installing. They are very reluctant to replace this gauge after numerous phone calls. DO NOT BUY THIS ITEM.

I have been going round and round with Chicago Harley and Harley Davidson Customer Service. Seems everyone knows there are issues with this Speedo/Tach combination. HD Cust Serv says there warrent the parts for 90 days if self installed, so there's your caution sign. Now HD Cust Serv says they are willing to work with me and instructed me to take it to the dealer for testing. Of course, they ran their little test and everything was fine. As I stated in previous post, it appears to be the heat and direct sunlight. So looks like I'm screwed. If you are like me, and I know there are allot of you out there who like to "self install", heed caution on electrical or electronic parts as HD is very relucktant to find a resolution in your favor.

I have been trying to get in touch with "Amir" the warranty guy at ChicagoHarley.com but he only works Wednesday and Saturday, and your lucky if you get him then, I can't. I paid $399.00 for this junk of a gauge.

The next speedo/tach will probably be a Dakota Digital, far more information on these babies. Plus, it carries a 2 year limited warranty. Not sure what the limited part is.

My tach was all HD parts. I don't recall the part numbers. Do some research in the P&A catalog. Bought most of them on ebay. The tach face matches the speedometer. Hardest part of the install was running the power wire to the fusebox. I picked up the tach signal from an un-used pin in the speedometer.

Skully I am not a fan of that combo unit have you seen it in person looks a little ugly and I know a person who has had a lot of trouble with it, granted it is plug in and easy but I like Richdeerht a lot better and after seeing his I think i am going that way

Yep. all MoCo parts. 67206-04 mounting bracket, 68986-04 mini tach, 67523-04 housing. The tach is available in different face styles to match your speedometer. I got everything from Surdyke, and the total was about $200. Connecting the power wire to the fuse box was a PITA, but it worked out well. It took me a while to figure out the speedometer plug, but onc I did, it was an easy connection there.
