Have a chance to buy a new 2008 ElectraGlide Classic for 16,250. It sits two inches higher than the Street Bob and weighs about 151lbs more. Seems like with the extra height and weight it may not be as stable handling at low speeds and parking lot turns as the Dyna is. I almost have the Bob the way I like it, less some bags for long distance touring.
Any thoughts, from someone who has made the switch or maybe owns both a Dyna and a Classic?
I have a Ultra and a Fat Bob and find them both very easy and fun to ride. The Ultra handles unbelievably well at slow speeds even with the added weight. If I was forced to make a choice I would keep the ultra. Love the Dyna but the Ultra is much more versatile.

Just do it yourself like I did ... I have about $17,000 total in it (including purchase of my stock '05 FXDI and all mods to date) and basically have a E-Glide that converts to a "Fat" Bob ... A lot of work, but it's customized to my liking and fits me both ergonomically and my style preferences:
Still debating. I can see buying a tourpack and mounting it on my existing luggage rack, but that limits the useable load to 10 pounds, I can get a faring for the front, although my detachable HD windshield has been, fine, and I have a new Windvest coming because I think they give less helmet turblence. I guess the bottom line is the electra is going to be more comfortable, but not as nimble as the Dyna, and IMHO not as "cool" as the Dyna.
I have an `01 wideglide and an `06 EG Classic. I think the wideglide handles better and like it more than the Classic. The wideglide is easier to maintain and clean and much cheaper to insure. I also believe the wideglidge has more room when riding 2-up; can also strech out better on the wideglide.
The Classic does better at longer rides as I do not have to battle the wind as with the dyna. The radio is really nice to have and I have the rear speakers. I have cruise on mine and really like that. I really enjoy the extra storage on the EG. I cannot strech out as well on the Classic and often get cramps in my hips. I have a little more trouble handling the Classic at slower speeds when 2-up, not accustomed yet to the increased stopping distance; just not use to it yet I think. My wife states she feels a little more uneasy in tight turns saying she feels that she sits up higher and thus feels the lean more than on the dyna. My wife is much more comfortable on the Classic and rarely goes when I take out the wideglide--this is a plus as far as I am concerned. The Classic is some what more expensive to maintain and insure.
In short, both great bikes with different riding styles. I do not believe I could make the decision if I had to get rid of one and now having had to opportunity to own both at the same time I do not know how I got by with just one bike.

Again thanks. I made them a final offer today of 16,475. If they hold firm, I will bite the bullet get the hard HD Dyna bags, and foot boards, a pair of desert dawgs to put on my Lindby.s to keep off the water.
I hope they take it, I really like the electra, but then again, Blubob, my Dyna is a bit more nimble, will go faster, and has a lot of my sweat equity in it. Never been touched by the dealer.
Have you test rode the bagger, as you should as they are a completly different feel and ride to a dyna. For me the dyna is more connected to the road and gives a raw feel to the ride, while a bagger is comfort, classy and smooth. As for pillion the bagger will give greater comfort but my wife actually finds our Bob very comfortable (sundowner and back rest) and perfer the ride and feel of it to the RK. I have not had the RK long enough to say which I would keep if I could only have one but it would not be a straight forward decision. Forget all the talk you get about 'trading up' you are actually switching styles and it depends what you want from a bike. Good luck with your decision.
