That 550 looks pretty good. Wish I'd seen it before I bought my 760.
(then again, I am glad I didn't on "info overoad" from looking at all the available units)
That being said, the Nuvi 760 has a lot more features that I wanted and it was only $199 from Amazon with free shipping. (Was $850 new in 07)
I have been extremely pleased with the 760 and I can get a waterproof handebar mount/case for it.
FWIW Amazon has the best prices for the Garmins etc.
oh and check out "Gpsmagazine dot com", tons of info.
Not sure on your year, but on mine there is a wiring conduit that runs under the tank front to back, was very simple to run the cable, just slid a coat hanger through and pulled the cable back.
That's huge! Thanks man for taking the time to post that. I was going to look for heat resistant wire safe enough to run that close to the heads.
I have a TomTom Rider 2...great unit, but the Bluetooth Scala Rider is difficult to hear with a half helmet. I've been looking for some in-ear bluetooth earbud(s).

I never tried the voice directions, I just glance at the screen, a picture is worth a thousand words. One less distraction as well.
It's a done deal guys. Thanks everyone for your input. I just ordered a "Garmin nüvi 255W 4.3-Inch Widescreen Portable GPS Navigator" for $170from Amazon. Looks like it will do everything I want and a lot more then the $2200 factory unit in my Ford Fusion!!
i use tom tom have milled a bracket for the chopper and then cut my own for my st bob, then i just bolt the bracket to the windshield... i will break down and get a ram mount though i really want it on my bars
Which ram mount are you looking at? The one I bought is not big enough to fit around the stock bar diameter of my Bob.
I have garmin sw loaded on my smartphone in case I get lost.
I have to carry a gps receiver that clips to my belt. The sw/reciever came as a kit for ~$150

Go here and use the wizard http://www.ram-mount.com/Products/Mo...8/Default.aspx . That is what I did and they sent me the right stuff. I looked for the receipt so I could give you part numbers but unfortunately I cannot find it. If the wizard does not help you out let me know, I will see if there is a part number on my mount.
