Well,
I've had my '08 Street Bob since December of '07. I love it, but I have it lowered and have a Barebones seat on it. It rides pretty rough on these crappy Oklahoma roads, so long trips aren't a popular option I don't want to change it because it looks pretty badass. Anyway, i've wanted a Softtail Deluxe for a long time-I just love the nostalgia look.
I've looked at them several times at the dealership, but they always want to screw me over on my trade. Well, they sent me a letter stating they are at a shortage for used bikes and would give me a very aggressive offer on my bike and give me $1000 towards gear, parts, etc...Instead, I find one on Craigslist and go out to look at it. I tell the guy I love everything he's done to it-exactly what I would have done, but I will have to go to the dealership to test drive one, just to make absolutely sure I would like the ride. He tells me I can take it for a test ride...Cool!
So I take it out and it's nowhere near the bike my Street Bob is. This Deluxe has the same stage 1 stuff mine has, but it feels like it's wheezing. Rev the motor up and it sounds loose. The bike is an '07 and has less than 3000 miles on the odometer. I get it out on the street and it's begging for mercy and I'm not even getting on it. It seemed like I had to creep up on the next gear, whereas the Dyna just rips right into it.
How is it that his bike seemed so lethargic with basically the same stuff done to it that mine has? It rode pretty nice-not at all accustomed to floor boards though.
I may have to rethink lifting my bike back up a bit and put some bags on it(that makes me squeemish) so I can go further than 2 hours from the house.
I am about to go to the stealership to see if they will let me take a ride on a new one, to compare to the one I just rode....If they are all like that, I am not impressed at all.
I too use a barebones saddle. You do feel it after a while. What have you done to lower your Street Bob? Do you have pictures? There is something different about the ride on a Street Bob.
Try a seat from C&C customs. They have an awesome looks-to-comfort ratio. The fast back model looks best if you don't carry a passenger, but I have the sport-tour seat since my wife rides with me. I'm with you on liking the looks of a low flat solo seat...but take a picture to look at, and then ride with a good seat.
