absolutely the softails are slugs compared to rubber mounted motors. softails have the twin balancers and all sorts of monkey motion going on that rubber mounted motors don't have. each to their own, but softails should belong to someone other than me.
Well, I went to the dealership and rode an '09. It rode like a new bike should. It actually felt pretty nice. I have no clue why that '07 rode like crap, but I know I don't want it. Anyway, while at the dealership I asked what I get for trade in and they tell me $10,000. Mine is an '08, with 2 tone paint, security system and $1500 worth of stuff on it. I laugh at him and tell him to get real. He asks what I was expecting and I tell him that since I was a loyal customer and they sent me that stupid letter saying they would make me a "VERY AGRESSIVE" offer on my bike, I was thinking they should have started at no less than $11,000. My bike is immaculate with only 3500 miles on it. It would have more, but I am super busy. Anyway, he goes back and forth with the manager and comes and tells me $10,500 is the best they can do. Long story short, I tell him to get bent and if I want a new bike, I'd sell mine first. BTW, the $1,000 was being advertized to anyone that bought a new bike-in the letter, they stated it was an exclusive offer. I f-ing hate these idiots.
To make matters worse, I was the ONLY person looking at bikes and he has the nerve to tell me they are selling alot of bikes right now. It looked like a ghost town.
I guess I'll just get back to making my bike somewhat of a convertible. Anyone have luck with getting the stock springs shortened? I love the Progressive, but want a little more travel, so I figure I could get the stock shocks shortened, but not as low as the Progressives.
Try those arnot air shocks. They look sick. You can raise and lower as needs and adjust the firmness at every height. I'm thinking about it when it's time for new shocks.
that 09 might be just like that 07 in a year or two...cant say for sure, but I overheard the service guy at the stealer telling a customer that bikes "loosen up" after a while and you hear and feel things differently.
I've averaged about 80 miles a day on my bike since I bought it, and I can hear a little difference in the motor. Not the night and day your talking about though between the two softies.
When i testdrove the balanced engine bikes I could easily feel the difference in response vs. the rubber mounted.
The fatbob stole the show for me... what a great riding/running bike. .. and looks good too.
I believe the saying that "Dyna's are riders bikes" .. and i've seen some beautiful ones..but the best looking bikes i have seen are members of the softail family.
fatboys, dueces, and a few others.
i bought my bike to ride the **** out of it.... and I'm havin a great time meeting that goal.
If i change my goal to wanting something for looks, ..I 'may' re-think things a little.
Also keep in mind that Your Dyna probably weighs considerably less than a Deluxe. So performance wise the Street Bob should have a slight advantage, but not by much.
i took an 06 deluxe for a test drive and felt that it was sluggish and lacked the performance my fxdxt has.. while on the escorted ride i followed a dyna around a corner that i didn't really think twice about.. the dyna made the corner fine but the deluxe dragged the floor board all the way around it..
