I bought a Super Glide because I liked the look better on the Super Glide. Not really fond of the dual headlight, rims or balloon tire. Just my 2 cents.
BigJon,
Same dilemma here. Local dealer has an '08 Fat Bob for $14000 (only 2500 miles) and a new Superglide Custom would be the same price by the time I figure in setup and freight fees. Not sure how much they are willing to negotiate on the price, but I think that the Fat Bob is probably a better deal.
Superglide Custom, awesome friggin bike... silver engine stands out in a sea of friggin blacked-out bikes... nothing against them, just never been one to have something that looks like somebody elses...NOTE: Extreme biased opinion... duh, look at what I ride
As far as handling, I doubt the fat bob can outhandle the FXDC... neither one is going to run away from the other....
I rode my superglide (2007) for a couple thousand miles and then test drove the fat bob.
Personally I noticed that the fat bob handled better.
very confident in the turns....
Thats not to say the super glide wasn't, just that the fat bob seemed a little more so.
Don't know if the FatBob would be worth the extra $2000 premium for you, but if you want the dual discs up front and more of a big Harley look with the larger tires you don't have a choice. If you want wire wheels, you have to with a super glide custom. You should have a wider selection of super glides to choose from. In sporty situations, the FatBob does handle and ride better than a super glide, but its not a significant difference in my opinion. The super glide has larger diameter wheels so it has more ground clearance and lean angles.
All Dyna's handle great. The choice is ultimately going to be yours. I like the Fat Bob better but don't care for the dual headlight.
Get a Streetbob..
I recently had same situation. I was looking at both bikes. I liked the handle bars better on the Super Glide but I liked the looks of the Fatbob.
Actually the bars are pretty comfortable on the Fatbob. Brakes are excellent on Fatbob. Front tire is bigger on the Fatbob and that is what I wanted. I liked the way the Fatbob handled better. Like someone said it was about a 2k difference. I bought the 09 Fatbob, it handles good and is decent for the wife after I changed to the Sundowner seat for her. I took my endorsement class with the Fatbob, slow speed s-turns and it was easy to handle. It's all in what you personally like. so far I've happy with bike. Only had a couple incidents in traffic when light changed to yellow and car locked up in front on me. Fatbob was very responsive. Took road trip to Jacksonville NC saturday with wife on back.(2.5 hours to get there). She liked the ride and said she was comfortable on back. Both are good bikes, can't go wrong with either. Good luck........be safe.
