thanks for the advice fxd2003rider on the washers.. I think that's what I'll do.. but as far as the shim in the brake lever - your warning says when installing master cylinder.. won't be messing with the master cylinder for this... are you saying I need to do this anyway when messing with the lever?

No need to remove the master cylinder when you replace the hand lever. It was only ment as a reminder.
The upper hand lever gap measures about 1/16 (see pic); the lower side fits tight to the bracket.

so i messed with it.. and i bought a crap load of washers.. there is no way i'm gonna get a washer to fit on that rattle reducer thingy ( the plastic piece to reduce rattling) - there is just no room. then I tried around the pins - and the hole in the washer was big enough, but the washer was to big.. and nothing else fit... ehhhhh... have to put this on the backburner...
