Relacing clutch cable question!!!!
I'm in the process of putting mini apes, cables, etc. off a street bob on my '06 super glide and need to know what all has to be done to replace the clutch cable? I know it goes into the side of the trans. cover where it says 6-speed but do I need to do anything special, ie. replace a gasket, is alot of trans. fluid going to run out or is there not fluid behind that cover? Thanks for the help..
If you have the bike on the jiffy stand and pull the cover, you might get a little running out. Just stick a rag in there and you'll be fine. There aint going to be that much lost.
You do need to replace the cover gasket and the o-ring that goes over the cable sheath, provided you didnt buy a new cable (o-ring comes with the new cable). You're also going to need some heavy duty snap ring pliers to get the cable out. The job is a lot easier than it looks.

When he says "heavy duty" he means just that. There is a SERIOUS snap-ring inside the clutch cover. I bought a set of heavy duty channel lock snap-ring pliers and it handled it without an issue.
The gasket is about $9 at the dealer. You will definitely want to replace it. I tried not changing it and I got a very slight drip. I didn't mess around. Bought a new gasket and it's good to go so learn from my mistake.
Other than that, if you're worried about losing fluid what I did since my yard is basically sand/dirt is dig a 3"-4" hole and then put the jiffy stand into it so the bike leaned way over. Should be fine other-wise.

I don't remember that as being possible with how the end of the cable hooks into the thing-a-ma-bob when I did mine last year.
I just finished replacing my clutch cable. I was able to do it without removing the snap ring. If you slack off the adjuster and remove it from the handlebar side, you should have enough slack. You have to rotate that ramp coupling about 90 degrees to be able to slide it out.
