Just bought it yesterday and installed it this morning. I have tried every position I can get it into and the facial buffeting at 60 to 70 is relentless. I bought the one that HD has for the FXDF. It is 15 inches above the top of the headlight. I talked to the guy at HD and he never said anything about this problem. I have heard folks with it but adjustments always cured the problem. Any solutions besides throwing it in the trash??? Looks better than I thought it would though. Great if I go 45 all the time...
Have you tried adjusting the pitch? It would be the top two bolts that hold it secure. Loosen those and move the windshiled forward, retighten, and go for a ride. I got that from others on here and it did make a difference although I hardly have the thing on.
I did try moving it forward and it might go a little further but the bolt is in an open slot so it can only go so far. I'd call HD but they aren't open Sunday's here in So. Cal.

I've seen many solutions posted here that minimize buffeting, rarely if ever is it eliminated, just reduced to a tolerable level. Lots of reading but a sharper angle like db suggests seems most effective, some have modified the mount to even allow more adjustment. There is a lot of trial and error. A fork or windshield bag to deflect wind from getting under the shield may help some. If you put your hand across your chest and the buffeting eases, then the problem area is below the shield and lowers may help.
The best approaches here for the fat bob appears to use a very short windshield (unless you are a very tall guy). My national shield works fine, but it is so small it may not take enough air off of you. I only put it on in cooler weather.

You're right, the slot is open and you can only go so far but go as far as you can while still being able to clamp down effectively. Don't know how much support you would get from your local HD dealer just out of a liability issue but you may know someone there well enough. Lowers would really fix the issue but they aren't popular due to looks. Next time you ride with the windshield on, put your feet next to your forks while your getting the buffeting and you'll see what I mean. There's also a vest out....the name eludes me but I think it's called Jacks Flaps?? which helps eliminate the buffeting effect to. It sucks but you'll find a comprimise.
I also find it better with a full face. Is that the compact windshield or the standard one which is higher. I've got the standard one and it's OK. I use mine about 30% of the time for longer journeys and I like it. I've got used to the buffeting and don't notice it so much now.
Full face helmet was how I fixed my buffeting issue. You'll never get rid of the buffeting. I tried.
First part totally true I can ride 100 mph with my FF and only feel it if i'm checking a blind spot. it feels like my neck will twist and pluck me into mid air if I'm not careful!! heheeee! With FF and W/S (same as yours HD-QD from dealer) I could cruise 100 or 110 for hours and be comfy as a cage driver. So for safety sake I don't use my FF at all. Second part well, If I slide the WS too high up the forks it's worse, too low no better. I'm 5'10 and most comfy with the W/S about a half inch above the headlight housing. The thing that shocked me the most was the HD day/night glasses I bought in 2007 came with an elastic band with a ball to adjust tension behind the head,I had never used it! Until the very day after I ordered the FF helmet..... After I pulled that tight My glasses were no longer bouncing on my face and since then I feel virtually no buffeting! Wind yes for sure but my head doesn't bob, And that's without mods to the WS itself.

I got a set of lowers from Rifle. That stopped the buffeting for me. While you are riding put uour feet out in front of you. If the buffeting goes away it's the wind coming up from below the windshiele and the lowers will help eliminate it.
