I was about to change the oil for the first time myself on the Dyna. I was surprised that the oil drain plug has no clearance for a socket wrench. There is a large rubber thing in the way. I can get a 5/8 socket over it, but the not the ratchet. I am, obviously, doing this on the ground (since I have no lift). I used to change the oil in the driveway all the time on my Sporty. Feels like HD engineered these things to force you to go to a dealer. :-)
Since I know many of your guys change your own oil, and surely not all of you have lifts, how do you get a wrench in there, much less a torque wrench?
I suppose I can do it, slowly, with a short box-end wrench.
You can move the rubber bumber out of the way. Just be sure to get it back in the same position, because the jiffy stand butts up against it when it's up.
Just changed oil on my Super Glide today. My rubber bumper is all the way back as far as it will go. I have plenty of room for a 5/8 socket with a short extension. I use ratchet to remove plug and a Craftsmen torque wrench to install plug. I hope this helps you.
OK, do they put those filters on with an air wrench? I can't get mine off. I have the HD filter wrench. I disconnected my forward shift linkage to get at it. But it wont budge. The oil filter wrench just keeps slipping. What a PITA. Any other ideas?

I remember when I took off the original oil filter, I had to pound a long screw driver through with a hammer, then twist it 1/2". I had to repeat this about 7-8 times. a real PITA and made a huge mess
i just took the voltage regulator off and whatever was behind it and used a strap type filter wrench from the front, kinda sucked to take the extra steps but got it done
I have always changed the oil on the ground and never even close to not enough room for a socket and ratchet. Jiffy stand bumper never in the way either. Something wierd there.
